PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON FRIDAY, JUNE 16, 2000

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in special session at the Concordia Parish School Board Office, in Vidalia, Louisiana, on Friday, June 16, 2000, at five-thirty  (5:30) o’clock p.m.  The meeting was called to order by the Honorable Mike Grantham, President, who declared after prayer by Superintendent Peterman and the Pledge, that the Board was ready for the transaction of business.

 

Members present were the Honorable Mike Grantham, Mr. Don Joseph, Mrs. Mary Campbell, Mr. Warren Brown, Mr. Darrell Crofford, Mr. Lynn White and Mrs. Martha Rabb.

 

Member absent was Mr. Johnnie Brown.

 

Superintendent Peterman read the following excerpt from the System Status Report into the minutes:

 

            The primary areas of focus should be:

 

1.         The improvement in student academic achievement throughout the parish, but particularly in the Ferriday area schools,

 

2.         the improvement in the quality of life and the morale of our employees and the improvement of our ability to attract and hold qualified personnel.  The lifeblood of an organization is its workforce.

 

3.         the improvement of our facilities to provide a better environment for students and employees and to reduce maintenance and utility costs, and

 

4.         the establishment of a strategic plan of action to guide us through the present and to serve as a guide in preparing for the future.

 

Tom O’Neal, Director of Business Affairs, reviewed the sales tax proposals for the Board.  Mr. O’Neal presented a brief history of the current tax. 

 

There was general discussion concerning the use of the proposed millage, including restoration and repair of facilities along with payment of salaries for teachers and other school employees.

 

It was moved by Mr. Crofford, seconded by Mr. Raven and carried unanimously to adopt the Resolution ordering and calling a special election to be held in School District No. 10 of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, to authorize the levy of special taxes therein; making application to the State Bond Commission in connection therewith; and providing for other matters in connection therewith. It was moved by Mr. Joseph, seconded by Mr. Raven and carried to adjourn at 6:55 p.m.
