PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2007

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in Regular Session at the Concordia Parish School Board office in Vidalia, Louisiana, on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at four (6:00) o’clock P.M.  The meeting was called to order by Mr. Gary Parnham, who after prayer and the Pledge, declared that the Board was ready for the transaction of business.

 

Members present were Ms. Darlene Baker, Mr. Fred T. Butcher, Ms. Mary Campbell, Mr. Daryle Price, Ms. Martha Rabb, Mr. Raymond Riley, Sr., Ms. Deanie Roberts, and Mr. Gary Parnham, Sr.

 

Member absent was Mr. Ricky Raven.

 

It was moved by Ms. Baker to lift the hiring freeze in order to hire someone to fill the vacant principal’s position.  The motion died for lack of a second.

 

Dr. Kerry Laster apprised the Board of the situation at Ridgecrest concerning the resignation of the principal and presented her recommendation as follows:

Nancy Anders – acting principal for the remainder of the 2007-08 school year

Charles Anderson – transfer as mathematics teacher and administrative assistant for the remainder of the 2007-08 school year

Provide an in-school suspension person

Adrian McNeil as a substitute in the vacant third grade position

 

It was moved by Mr. Butcher, seconded by Ms. Roberts and carried 7 to 1 with Ms. Baker voting no to adopt the Superintendents recommendation.

 

Mr. Bob Hammonds provided clarification based on board policy and minutes concerning the extended employment of the Director of Federal Programs. There was lengthy discussion on the chain of events. 

 

It was moved by Mr. Butcher, seconded by Mr. Riley and carried 6 to 2 with Ms. Baker and Ms. Roberts voting no that those persons affected by the freeze who are presently in the position will be allowed to stay there based on the Superintendent’s recommendation to the Board and work on a day-to-day until such time the Board appoints a new superintendent.

 

It was moved by Ms. Baker that the Board advertise, with the minimum qualifications, for the position of Superintendent.  The motion died for a lack of a second.

 

It was moved by Mr. Butcher, seconded by Mr. Riley and carried to adjourn at 6:50 P.M.
