PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON  THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2008

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in Regular Session at the Concordia Parish School Board office in Vidalia, Louisiana, on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at six (6:00) o’clock P.M.  The meeting was called to order by Mr. Gary Parnham, who after prayer and the Pledge, declared that the Board was ready for the transaction of business.

Members present were, Mr. Daryle Price, Ms. Martha Rabb, Mr. Ricky Raven, Mr. Raymond Riley, Sr., Mr. Gary Parnham, Sr., Mr. Fred T. Butcher, Ms. Mary Campbell, and Ms. Darlene Baker.

Member absent was Ms. Deanie Roberts.

Recognition for 4-H winners was postponed due to other student activities.

The following students were recognized as winners of the Sydney A. Murray Citizenship Award:

Taylor and Sons Insurance recognized Ms. Sarah Cotton, teacher, Vidalia Junior High, as Employee of the Month.

The Board Recognized Ms. Christi Welch, secretary, Vidalia High School, and Ms. Evelyn Clark, teacher assistant, Vidalia Junior High School as the School Support Employee of the Year.

Committee reports were presented by the chairperson of each committee.

It was moved by Mr. Raven, seconded by Ms. Rabb and carried unanimously to approve the minutes of September 11, 2008.

It was moved by Mr. Riley, seconded by Ms. Rabb and carried unanimously to approve invoices for the month of September in the amount of $3,294,476.

It was moved by Mr. Riley, seconded by Ms. Rabb and carried unanimously to table Compensation and Expenses for Board Members.

It was moved by Mr. Riley, seconded by Ms. Rabb and carried unanimously to approve the Resolution for Employment of Special Council.

It was moved by Mr. Riley, seconded by Mr. Raven and carried unanimously to approve the first reading of the following policies:

It was moved by Ms. Campbell, seconded by Mr. Raven and carried unanimously to approve all personnel items in global.

            Resignations:

            Kristen Brown, Pre-K teacher, Vidalia Lower, effective September 18, 2008

            Alice Aldridge, programmer, data processing, effective October 3, 2008

            Gail Duncan, paraprofessional, Ferriday Jr. High, effective November 21, 2008

Barbara Young, paraprofessional, Ferriday High School, effective October 31, 2008

            Appointments:

Tena Payne, teacher, Ferriday Jr. High, effective  September 8,2008, for the remainder of         the 2008-2009 school year

            Lindsay Roy, Pre-K teacher, Vidalia Lower, effective October 13, 2008

            Cristi Welch, paraprofessional, Vidalia Jr. High, effective date to be determined

It was moved by Mr. Riley, seconded by Ms. Rabb and carried unanimously to adjourn at 6:25 P.M.
