PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY, APRIL 12, 2012  

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in Regular Session at the Concordia Parish School Board office in Vidalia, Louisiana, on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 6:00 P.M..  The meeting was called to order by Mr. Gary Parnham who after prayer and the Pledge, declared that the Board was ready for the transaction of business.

 

Members present were Mr. Gary Parnham, Sr., Ms. Mary Campbell, Ms. Darlene Baker, Mr. Charles Minor and Mr. Warren Enterkin.

 

Mr. Fred T. Butcher arrived late at 6:25 P.M. 

 

Member absent was Mr. Raymond Riley.

 

Newly appointed member to represent district 4B, Ms. Angela Hayes, had not yet received a commission or been sworn into office.

 

The Board recognized Ms. Shannon Ashley, Vidalia Junior High School, for having been selected as the Concordia Parish Teacher of the Year.  Ms. Ashley will go on to compete in Regional competition.

 

The Board recognized the following students for having received the Sydney A. Murray Citizenship Award:

Committee Reports were presented for each of the respective committees.

 

It was moved by Mr. Minor, seconded by Ms. Baker and carried unanimously to approve the minutes of March 8, and March 29, 2012.

 

It was moved by Ms. Baker, seconded by Ms. Probst and carried unanimously to approve invoices in the amount of $4,011,737 for the month of March.

 

It was moved by Mr. Butcher, seconded by Ms. Campbell and carried unanimously to move the May meeting of the Concordia Parish School Board to Monday, May 14, 2012, due to a conflict with the graduation date of Ferriday High School.

 

It was moved by Mr. Butcher, seconded by Mr. Minor and carried unanimously to approve the Extra-curricular Handbook.

 

It was moved by Ms. Baker, seconded by Mr. Butcher and carried unanimously to approve the first reading of Policy GBRJ - Substitutes.

 

It was moved by Mr. Butcher, seconded by Mr. Minor and carried unanimously to approve the Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with Recreation District Number 3.

 

Mr. Tom O’Neal and Ms. Debbie Smythe presented a Powerpoint Presentation concerning the Ad Valorem Tax Renewal scheduled to be on the ballot on Saturday, April 21, 2012.

 

Dr. Rhonda Wilson presented a Powerpoint Presentation concerning the Common Core Standards and the impact the implementation will have on our school system.

 

Mr. Oliver Schultz addressed the Board concerning the Redistricting Plan.  Mr. Schultz explained the differences in the old plan and the plan adopted by the Police Jury.  It was moved by Mr. Butcher, seconded by Mr. Minor and carried unanimously to table the issue until all members were present.

 

It was moved by Ms. Campbell, seconded by Ms. Baker and carried unanimously to approve all personnel items in global as follows:
