PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2013  

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in Regular Session at the Concordia Parish School Board office in Vidalia, Louisiana, on Thursday, December 12, 2013.  The meeting was called to order by Mr. Gary Parnham who after prayer and the Pledge, declared that the Board was ready for the transaction of business.

 

Members present were Mr. Gary Parnham, Sr., Ms. Mary Campbell, Mr. Warren Enterkin, Ms. Darlene Baker, Mr. Charles Minor, Ms. Cheryl Probst, Mr. Raymond Riley and Mr. Fred T. Butcher,

 

Mr. Jeffery Goodman arrived at 6:02 p.m.

 

Dr. Paul Nelson recognized the Christmas Card Art Contest Winners.

Dr. Paul Nelson recognized Cailyn Glenn, a Ferriday High School Senior, for being named to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association All-Academic Composite Team.

 

Committee reports were presented. 

 

It was moved by Mr. Riley, seconded by Mr. Minor and carried unanimously to approve the minutes of November 14, 2013.

 

It was moved by Ms. Baker, seconded by Mr. Butcher and carried unanimously to approve invoices in the amount of $3,450,444 for the month of November.

 

It was moved by Mr. Riley, seconded by Mr. Enterkin and carried unanimously to approve the Inter-government Agreement with the Town of Columbia (Caldwell Parish) for the collection of Insurance Premium Taxes.

 

It was moved by Mr. Butcher, seconded by Mr. Riley and carried unanimously to approve the amendment of the SRO Agreement with the Town of Ferriday.

 

It was moved by Mr. Riley, seconded by Ms. Campbell and carried unanimously to approve the resolution for joining the Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) lawsuit entitled “St. John the Baptist Parish School Board,” et al v. the State of Louisiana, et al.

 

A presentation on Job Training Celebrate Success was given by Mrs. Mary Huhn, Supervisor of Special Populations.

 

The following Personnel Announcements were made:

 

Leaves:

 

LaRuth Lewis, teacher, Vidalia Junior High School, extended medical leave through January 3, 2014, effective upon the exhaustion of accumulated sick leave.

 

Tina Fitt, Connections teacher, Ferriday High School, return from extended sick leave, effective December 2, 2013.

 

Retirements:

 

James Franklin, 8 hour custodian, Vidalia High School, effective January 31, 2014.

 

Resignations:

 

Phyllis Cage, principal, Vidalia Lower Elementary School, effective December 20, 2013.

Dr. Paul Nelson made the following announcements:

 

Marcus Chapman, a 9th grader at Vidalia High School, Christmas ornament will be displayed at the governor’s mansion.  He will be recognized at the January 2014, board meeting.

 

The first semester will end on Friday, December 20, 2013.

 

The schools will close on Friday, December 20, 2013, at 12:30 p.m.  After successfully closing all schools, I anticipate closing the central office at 2:00 p.m.  The office will reopen on Monday, January 6, 2014, and students will return on Tuesday, January 7, 2014.

 

The December 2013, supplement check will be distributed on Friday, December 13, 2013.
