PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY, MAY 7, 2020

 

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in Regular Session VIA ZOOM on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at 6:00 o’clock p.m.  The meeting was called to order by Mr. Fred Butcher who after prayer and the Pledge, declared that the Board was ready for the transaction of business.

 

Members present were Mr. Warren Enterkin, Mrs. Dorothy Parker, Dr. Raymond Riley, Mr. Derrick Carson, Mr. Fred Butcher, Mr. John Bostic, Ms. Angela Hayes, and Mr. Ricky Raven.

 

Board Member Mrs. Lisette Forman was absent.

 

Committee Reports were presented.  (See attached)

 

It was moved by Dr. Riley, seconded by Mrs. Parker and carried to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held on April 9, 2020, and the Special Meeting held on April 23, 2020.

 

It was moved by Mr. Raven, seconded by Mrs. Parker and carried to approve invoices in the amount of $3,603,116 for the month of April.

 

It was moved by Dr. Riley, seconded by Dr. Carson and carried to name the Vidalia Junior High Gymnasium the Charles C. Johnson Memorial Gymnasium honoring his long time employment and coaching achievements.

It was moved by Dr. Riley, seconded by Mr. Raven and carried for the Superintendent and the Finance Director to establish a rate of compensation for classified employees, other than school custodial personnel, for all work accomplished during this emergency COVID-19 Pandemic and that compensation be paid accordingly and retroactively.

 

After a brief discussion, it was moved by Mr. Carson, seconded by Mrs. Parker and carried to allow the Superintendent to form a committee to devise a Strategic Distance Learning Plan and Internet Technology Comprehensive Plan by June 5, 2020.

 

There was a discussion concerning job descriptions for the Director of Elementary Education and the Director of Secondary Education.

 

There were no personnel announcements.

 

The following Announcements were made by Mr. Shirley:

 

1.     May 1 is our official return to school date.

2.     Election Dates have been rescheduled.

NOTICE OF RESCHEDULED ELECTIONS

June 20, 2020 and July 25, 2020. Early voting for the June 20, 2020, election will be held June 6-13, 2020 (excluding Sunday, June 7, 2020) and early voting for the July 25, 2020, election will be held July 11-18, 2020 (excluding Sunday, July 12, 2020)

3.     Our Feeding program has expanded to Monterey this week.

4.     Financial Disclosure Statements are due May 15, 2020.

5.     Bonus checks will be deposited Friday. Full time = $700, Part-time = $350.

6.     Pre-K Round up is being done virtually this year; we opened it up this week.

7.     Technology surveys are being conducted for the next week to both our parents/students, and our faculty to see their technology needs at their residence so we can be better prepared for distance learning in the fall.

8.     Next week the Governor will be announcing his Roadmap for reopening our State; so hopefully we can make some plans for graduation.
