PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING via ZOOM TELECONFERENCE HELD ON THURSDAY, JULY 22, 2021

 

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in Special Session via Zoom Teleconference on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 6:00 o’clock p.m.  The meeting was called to order by Mr. Fred Butcher who, after prayer and the Pledge, declared that the Board was ready for the transaction of business.

 

Members present were Mrs. Dorothy Parker, Dr. Raymond Riley, Mr. Derrick Carson, Mr. John Bostic, and Mr. Fred Butcher. Members absent were: Mr. Warren Enterkin, Ms. Angela Hayes, Mrs. Lisette Forman and Mr. Ricky Raven.

 

Mr. O’Neal opened the bids for the CPA Parking Lot as follows:

It was moved by Dr. Riley, seconded by Mr. Bostic and carried to refer bids to our engineer for review and recommendation for award. Based on the engineering review, the Superintendent and Finance Director are authorized to award the bid to the lowest responsible bidder.

 

The bids were opened as follows:

 

Multipurpose Copy Paper – 8 ½ x 11

Vendor                               Bid – 750 cases

Contract Paper Group          $27.78 per case

Economical Paper               $29.40 per case

Liberty Paper                      $29.25 per case

Pettus Office Products        $29.59 per case

School Specialty                 unable to respond

 

It was moved by Dr. Riley, seconded by Mr. Bostic and carried to allow Mr. O’Neal to take the paper bids under advisement and award to the lowest bidder that meets specifications.

 

Janitorial Cleaning Supplies:

It was moved by Dr. Riley, seconded by Mr. Bostic and carried to allow Mr. O’Neal to take the janitorial bids under advisement and award to the lowest bidder that meets specifications.

 

 

Cafeteria Pest Control

Orkin Pest Control                        $260.00 per month

 

It was moved by Dr. Riley, seconded by Mr. Bostic and carried to allow Mr. O’Neal to award the Pest Control bid to Orkin Pest Control if the bid meets specifications.

 

Ms. Watson presented the board with the results of a parent and staff survey that was sent out to all school communities concerning students wearing masks at school.

 

It was moved by Mr. Carson, seconded by Dr. Riley to keep the current mask mandate in place for schools and students.

The motion failed.

 

It was moved by Mr. Bostic, seconded by Mr. Carson to revisit the student mask mandate at the next board meeting and to make a decision based on the latest guidance from the state health department. The special board meeting will be held on August 4, 2021 to discuss the mask mandate. Motion carried.
