The Educational Policy Committee discussed the updated cell phone policy, emphasizing the need for clear communication and enforcement.
A. Key points include devices being stored in backpacks or purses during school hours.
B. Consequences for violations are defined:
(a) first offense results in student counseling,
(b) second offense leads to device confiscation and parent notification, and
(c) a third offense results in device being confiscated for the entire 9 weeks (minimum of 30 days)
C. The committee also debated the practicality of storing devices and the potential costs of implementing storage systems.
D. The importance of consistent enforcement and staff involvement was highlighted.
Action Items
A. Send out the updated cell phone policy with an acknowledgement form for parents and students to review and sign.
B. Discuss the cell phone policy with the school staff to ensure consistent enforcement.
C. Explore the use of metal detectors or other technology to help enforce the cell phone policy.
