Superintendent Chelette advised the Board that he had received correspondence from Norman Magee, school board attorney, stating that the state land office requested the board not to pursue the suit against Marty Hedrick as they were trying to negotiate payment for the lease of the property. It was the consensus of the committee to try to pursue the suit to recover the monies for the lease.

Superintendent Chelette apprised the board of his desire to use the 8G block monies for the 1991-92 school year for a computer lab at Monterey Junior High School.
Dennis Cowart presented the committee with copies of the 1991-92 consolidated budget for their review.
The financial statement was reviewed by the committee.
Gene Willard, sales tax collector, reviewed the financial status of the sales tax department.
Superintendent Chelette apprised the board that he would like to transfer the 6th-grade students at Ferriday Upper Elementary school to Ferriday Junior High School. The cost factor would be under $10,000.00 for building renovations. The matter is being checked with the justice department to make sure the move would be in line with the court order.
It was the consensus of the board that there should be someone in attendance at the meeting being held in Baton Rouge concerning the MFP formula. The meeting will be held July 24, 1991. Polly Miley, Legislative Liaison, is attending as the board representative.
The committee discussed the feasibility of employing a grant writer for the parish. Dr. Mary Eidt presented information she had gathered from other parishes and the Louisiana State Department of Education. Some of the very large parishes like Jefferson and East Baton Rouge hire grant writers. Moveover, these people are often hired on a commission basis. Dr. Eidt stated the current trend is to have grants written at the school level by site administrators and teachers.
