PROCEEDINGS OF THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1991
The Parish School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in special session at the School Board Office in Vidalia, Louisiana, on Tuesday, September 26, 1991, at five-thirty (5:30) o'clock p.m.
Members present were Honorable J. W. Calhoun, President; Mr. Johnnie Brown; Mrs. Marie Cowan; Mr. Jerry King; and Mr. Walter Stampley.
Members absent were Mrs. Polly Miley, Mr. Manson Nelson, Mr. Charles Partridge and Mrs. Georgia Washington.
The Parish School Board of the Parish of Concordia was duly convened by Honorable J. W. Calhoun, President, who declared that the Board was ready for the transaction of business.
The meeting was opened with prayer led by Marie Cowan.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited.
Superintendent Chelette apprised the Board that Ms. Henrietta Williams' attorney requested a continuance of the hearing to a later date. The date is to be set by both attorneys. It was moved by Marie Cowan, seconded by Johnnie Brown and carried to grant the request.
It was moved by Jerry King, seconded by Johnnie Brown and carried to hear the addendum.
It was moved by Jerry King, seconded by Johnnie Brown and carried to go into executive session to discuss personnel matters. The board went into executive session at five thirty-five (5:35) o'clock p.m.
The board returned from executive session at ten minutes after six (6:10) o'clock p.m.
J. W. Calhoun stated that the board had discussed personnel matters.
J. W. Calhoun requested that the board hire a secretary for H. L. Irvin, Support Service Supervisor. Superintendent Chelette indicated that he could not make the recommendation to hire another person when he had been instructed to cut the budget.
It was moved by Jerry King, seconded by Marie Cowan and carried to immediately hire a secretary, on a temporary basis, at the present secretarial salary scale. The item is to be placed on the agenda at the next regular board meeting. There is to be a job description and rate of pay presented to the board. Opposed: Johnnie Brown and Walter Stampley.
J. W. Calhoun asked the board to clarify its request to house the maintenance vehicles at the central office. Jerry King stated that when he made the motion to house the vehicles he did not necessarily mean that they had to be kept in the building, but only kept at the central office location. He said the decision should be left to the superintendent and supervisor of support services.
It was moved by Jerry King, seconded by Walter Stampley and carried to approve a leave without pay for Fred Ferguson, teacher, Ferriday High School, from October 2, 1991, through October 8, 1991, for personal reasons.
It was moved by Jerry King, seconded by Walter Stampley and carried to adjourn the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at six forty-five (6:45) p.m.
