PROCEEDINGS OF THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 1991

 

The Parish School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in special session at the Concordia Parish School Board Office in Vidalia, Louisiana on Tuesday, November 12, 1991, at five-thirty (5:30) o'clock p.m.

 

Members present were Honorable J. W. Calhoun, President; Mrs. Marie Cowan;  Mr. Manson Nelson; Mrs. Polly Miley; Mr. Walter Stampley; and Mrs. Georgia Washington.

 

Members absent were Mr. Johnnie Brown, Mr. Jerry King and Mr. Charles Partridge.

 

The parish School Board of the Parish of Concordia was duly convened by Honorable J. W. Calhoun, President, who declared that the Board was ready for the transaction of business.

 

The meeting was  opened with prayer led by Manson Nelson.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited.

 

It was moved by Marie Cowan, seconded by Manson Nelson and carried to approve the invoices in the amount of $1,434,904.37.

 

Johnnie Brown arrived at five thirty-seven (5:37) o'clock p.m.

 

Upon the recommendation of Superintendent Chelette it was moved by Manson Nelson, seconded by Marie Cowan  and carried to reject all bids for the utility van previously advertised.

 

H. L. Irvin, Support Service Supervisor, requested to reduce the square footage of the roof package by approximately 42.4% and readvertise.  Irvin indicated that the air conditioning units would have to be removed from the roof of the school.  It was moved by Marie Cowan, seconded by Manson Nelson and carried to readvertise the roof package at Vidalia High School.  Walter Stampley stated that the remainder of the job should be considered when we received the reimbursement from the storm damage at Ferriday High School from the federal program.

 

It was moved by Walter Stampley seconded by Johnnie Brown and carried to rescind the motion of the June 18, 1991 meeting which stated the supplement would be $3000/$1500 and be paid entirely from Sales Tax until the fund was depleted.  Opposed Georgia Washington.

 

It was moved by Johnnie Brown, seconded by Polly Miley and carried that beginning effective with the November 1991 payroll, the budgetary adjustments will be made as follows:   Cost for retiree insurance benefits will continue to be paid according to current levels, but the home funds from whose program(s) they retired will bear the cost;  salary supplements for general fund employees will be paid 1/2  from Sales Tax and 1/2  from home fund.  Lunch Fund will bear total cost for their employees. The current level of salary supplements will be paid for now.  The status of each fund will be reviewed monthly with the supervisor for each fund apprising the board if other action may become necessary.

 

It was moved by Johnnie Brown, seconded by Polly Miley and carried to allow Ronald Scott use of  the Ferriday Junior High cafeteria on April 18, 1992 for a family dinner.  Scott is to pay a $50.00 fee for an employee of the cafeteria to be attendance.

 

It was moved by Walter Stampley, seconded by Johnnie Brown and carried to approve the following personnel.

 

                                                                               PERSONNEL

 

Accept the resignation of Bridget Johnson, sweeper, Ferriday Lower Elementary, effective October 22, 1991.

 

Approve the appointment of James Franklin, head custodian, Vidalia High School, 8 hour 12 month employees, effective November 13, 1991.

 

Accept the retirement of Fred Ferguson, teacher, Ferriday High School, effective November 30, 1991.

 

It was moved by Walter Stampley, seconded by Polly Miley and carried that the meeting be adjourned.

 

The meeting was adjourned at six thirty-five (6:35) o'clock p.m.
