PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA TAKEN AT A COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1992.

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in committee at the Concordia Parish School Board Office in Vidalia, Louisiana on Tuesday, February 11, 1992, at five-thirty (5:30) o'clock p.m.

 

Members present were Honorable J.W. Calhoun, President; Rev. Johnnie Brown; Mrs. Marie Cowan; Mr. Jerry King; Mr. Manson Nelson; Mrs. Polly Miley; Mr. Charles Partridge; Mr. Walter Stampley; and Mrs. Georgia Washington.

 

Members absent:  None

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia was duly convened by Honorable J.W. Calhoun, President, who declared that the board after prayer led by Mr. Manson Nelson and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, was ready for the transaction of business.

 

Superintendent Lee informed the board that Mr. Tom O'Neal, Director of Business Affairs, would present the first item.

 

Mr. O'Neal discussed the financial report and informed the board of changes in procedure which would expedite the accounts payable process.  He asked Mrs. Dangerfield, Assistant Director of Business Affairs, to explain the purchasing process.   Mr. O'Neal presented a more simplified version of the financial report as promised in the previous meeting. 

 

Superintendent Lee asked the board for an emergency change in the purchasing policy to be implemented immediately.  He will mail a proposal for board consideration before the next regular meeting.

 

Mr. H.L. Irvin, Supervisor of Support Services, asked that the board consider his need for certain materials on a day-to-day basis when implementing this policy.

 

Superintendent Lee informed the board of a request by Rev. Eugene Williams, Headstart Director, to install a manual fire alarm system in the Ferriday Education Building.  The state fire marshal has directed this, and Headstart will pay half of the installation cost.  The board requested more information and some cost estimates.

 

Superintendent Lee informed the board of an appeal request by Joe Caesor.  The appeal will be set for the regular board meeting on February 18, 1992.  Information was distributed on the hearing held at Ferriday High School.

 

Superintendent Lee informed the board of a request by Billy Nelson to cut timber on school board property.  After discussion it was agreed that the board did not wish to allow any timber cutting at this time.

 

After discussion of the upcoming reapportionment, it was requested by the board to have a joint meeting with the Police Jury Monday, February 17, 1992, at 6:00 p.m.  Confirmation of this meeting will be mailed to the board later this week. 

 

It was moved by Mr. Stampley, seconded by Mrs. Miley and carried to adjourn.

 

The meeting was adjourned at six forty-seven (6:47) o'clock p.m.
