PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1992.

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in special session at the Concordia Parish School Board Office in Vidalia, Louisiana on Tuesday, May 12, 1992 at five-thirty (5:30) o'clock p.m.  The meeting was called to order by the Honorable J.W. Calhoun, President, who declared that the board after prayer led by Rev. Shep Bethley and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, was ready for the transaction of business.

 

Members present were Honorable J.W. Calhoun; Rev. Johnnie Brown; Mrs. Marie Cowan; Mr. Jerry King; Mrs. Polly Miley; Mr. Manson Nelson; Mr. Charles Partridge; and

Mr. Walter Stampley.

 

Member absent:  Mrs. Georgia Washington

 

Mr. Tom O'Neal, Director of Business Affairs discussed the financial report and answered questions from board members. 

 

It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. King and carried unanimously to authorize advertising for bids for school food services.

 

Dr. Pete Peterman, spokesman for the Monterey Recreation District requested to spread pit run and remove stumps on School Board property surrounding the swimming pool.  After discussion, it was moved by Mr. Nelson, seconded by Mr. King and carried unanimously to approve this request. 

 

It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mrs. Miley and carried unanimously to add three new members to the DFSCA Advisory Committee.  The three members are:

 

            Mrs. Georgia Allen - Community Organization

            Mrs. Rose C. Hymon - LEA

            Mr. Emerson Slain  - Community

 

In reference to the request by Concordia Parish School Bus Operators Association asking the board to pay for annual physicals, Superintendent Lee asked that this request be moved to another meeting to afford time for the minutes to be researched to see if this is a local requirement.

 

The request from LaSalle Community Action was tabled.

 

Superintendent Lee asked the board to approve a 4-Day Workweek for all twelve (12) month employees as a cost cutting measure.   The schedule would be Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (June 1-August 14, 1992).  After discussion, Superintendent Lee commented that the 4-Day Workweek schedule would be on a two week trial basis. 

 

After these two weeks, a determination would be made to continue until the end of July.  It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. Nelson and carried 5-3 with Mr. Calhoun, Mr. King, and Mr. Stampley voting no.

 

It was moved by Mrs. Cowan, seconded by Rev. Brown and carried unanimously to go into executive session to discuss personnel at six-o-one (6:01) o'clock p.m.

 

It was moved by Mr. Nelson, seconded by Mrs. Cowan and carried unanimously to return to open session at six nineteen (6:19) o'clock p.m.   

 

Personnel changes follow:

 

It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mrs. Miley and carried unanimously to accept the resignation of Willie Woods, FHS, Assistant Girl's Basketball Coach (coaching only), effective May 29, 1992.

 

It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Rev. Brown and carried unanimously to deny leave of absence to Madaline C. Gibbs, science teacher at VHS for 1992-93 school year.

 

It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Rev. Brown and carried unanimously to approve sabbatical leave for Katherine Calhoun, Science/Math teacher, VUE, for the 1992-93 school year.

 

It was moved by Rev. Brown, seconded by Mr. Nelson and carried unanimously to approve extended sick leave for Brenda Moore, FEC, May 5-May 29, 1992.

 

It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mrs. Miley and carried unanimously to approve tenure for the following persons:

There was no action on those returning from leave 1992-93.

 

It was moved by Mr. Stampley, seconded by Mrs. Miley and carried unanimously to adjourn at six twenty-two (6:22) o'clock p.m.
