PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON MONDAY, JUNE 1, 1992.

 

The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in special session at the Concordia Parish School Board Office in Vidalia, Louisiana on Monday, June 1, 1992 at five-thirty (5:30) o'clock p.m.  The meeting was called to order by the Honorable J.W. Calhoun, President, who declared that the board after prayer led by Rev. Kenny Thornton and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, was ready for the transaction of business.

 

Members present were Honorable J.W. Calhoun; Rev. Johnnie Brown; Mrs. Marie Cowan; Mr. Jerry King; Mrs. Polly Miley; Mr. Manson Nelson; Mr. Charles Partridge;  Mr. Walter Stampley; and Mrs. Georgia Washington.

 

Members absent:  None

 

Superintendent Lee asked Mr. Tom O'Neal, Director of Business Affairs, to discuss his contact with bonding attorneys in the law firm of Foley and Judell.  Copies of pertinent letters were available to each board member.  As information indicated, it was now too late to make any changes in the pending sales tax proposition.  The two (2) options for consideration were:(1) leave the proposition as is for the July 18 election and (2) to postpone the calling of the election until a later date.

 

After discussion, it was moved by Mr. Nelson and seconded by Mr. Partridge to reconsider the former motion to adopt the sales tax proposition.  A roll call vote was taken and the results follow:  YEAS: Calhoun, King, Miley, Nelson, Partridge, and Stampley.  NAYS:  Brown, Cowan and Washington.  The motion carried 6-3.

 

After a lengthy discussion, it was moved by Mrs. Cowan and seconded by Mrs. Washington to leave the proposition as it stands.  A roll call vote was taken and the results follow:

YEAS:  Brown, Cowan, Miley, Partridge, and Washington.  NAYS:  Calhoun, King, Nelson, and Stampley.  The motion carried 5-4.   

 

It was moved by Rev. Brown, seconded by Mr. Stampley and carried unanimously to adjourn at six twenty (6:20) o'clock p.m.
