PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1992.
The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in special session at the Concordia Parish School Board Office in Vidalia, Louisiana on Tuesday, September 8, 1992 at five-thirty (5:30) o'clock p.m. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Marie Cowan, Vice President, who declared that the board after prayer led by Mr. Jerry King and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, was ready for the transaction of business.
Members present were Rev. Johnnie Brown; Mrs. Marie Cowan; Mr. Jerry King; Mrs. Polly Miley; Mr. Manson Nelson; Mr. Charles Partridge; Mr. Walter Stampley and Mrs. Georgia Washington.
Member absent: Mr. J.W. Calhoun
Mr. Tom O'Neal, Director of Business Affairs presented the financial report. After discussion, it was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. Nelson and carried unanimously to approve the financial report.
Mr. Lowery Herrington, Chairman of the Concordia Parish Employees Insurance Committee, reported a mis-representation of insurance benefits by American Travelers Insurance and recommended that this company not be allowed to sell future policies through payroll deduction. After discussion, it was moved by Mrs. Miley, seconded by Mr. King and carried unanimously that American Travelers Insurance not be allowed future sales in Concordia Parish through payroll deduction.
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. Nelson and carried unanimously to table a motion to allow DROP retirement participants the same benefits as regular retirees.
Mr. Michael Winteroad, Customer Service Representative from Louisiana Power and Light presented Challenge Grants to the following teachers:
$1,000 - RES - Debra Harris
770 - VUE - Bettye Huhn
660 - FLE - Charlotte White
Superintendent Lee discussed the process of public hearing for the Consolidated Budget for 1993. There is to be a public hearing, followed by a meeting approving the budget at the regular board meeting on September 15.
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Rev. Brown and carried unanimously to advertise for a School Nurse.
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mrs. Miley and carried unanimously to eliminate the mandate of 78 degrees for summer temperatures in Concordia Parish School System Buildings until a thorough check can be made and the situation reviewed.
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. King and carried unanimously to create an additional bus route in the Wildsville area. This will be temporary , not to exceed this school year.
It was moved by Mr. Stampley, seconded by Mr. Nelson and carried unanimously to approve all personnel as follows:
