Lee and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, was ready for the transaction of business.

Members present were the Honorable Walter Stampley, Mrs. Marie Cowan, Mr. Jerry King, Mrs. Polly Miley, Mr. Manson Nelson.

Members absent:  Mr. J. W. Calhoun, Rev. Johnnie Brown, Mr. Charles Partridge, and Mrs. Georgia Washington

Mr. Tom O'Neal, Director of Business Affairs, presented the financial report and answered questions.

Superintendent Lee introduced Mr. Eli St. Julian, representative of Honeywell, Inc., who presented information on a program to upgrade facilities and save on energy costs.  Following lengthy discussion, it was agreed that Superintendent Lee would compile additional questions from Board members or supervisors to forward to Mr. St. Julian and that Honeywell, Inc., would carry out a preliminary assessment of energy needs at school facilities.

Rev. Johnnie Brown and Mrs. Georgia Washington arrived at 6:40 p.m.

Rev. Johnnie Brown requested that the Board review the current salary schedules to rectify inequities among employees.  Mrs. Washington suggested leaving salary schedule revisions for the new Board in January.  Following general discussion, it was agreed that Superintendent Lee would have the Business Department survey several surrounding parishes to compare our salary schedules with similar school systems.

Superintendent Lee and Board members who attended the National School Boards Convention in New Orleans, April 8 through April 12, 1994, reported on the sessions they attended.  It was agreed that meeting members of school boards across the nation provided valuable information on how other systems are managed and that the sessions provided training in carrying out school board responsibilities.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
