PROCEEDINGS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF CONCORDIA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, MAY 16, 1995.
The School Board of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana, met in special session at the Concordia Parish School Board Office, in Vidalia, Louisiana, on Tuesday, May 16, 1995, at five-thirty (5:30) o'clock p.m. The meeting was called to order by the Honorable Manson E. Nelson, Sr., President, who declared that the Board, after prayer by Mr. Lynn White and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, was ready for the transaction of business.
Members present were the Honorable Manson E. Nelson, Sr., Mr. Eddie L. Coleman, Sr., Mrs. Marie Cowan, Mr. Charles Partridge, Mrs. Georgia Washington, Mr. Lynn White, and Mr. Sam Williams, Jr.
Members absent: Mr. Arthur A. Arnold and Mrs. Shirley Crnkovic
Superintendent Lee and Dr. Pete Peterman, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, recognized two students for receiving Superintendent's Writing Awards:
Monica Gorham School, School System, and State Regional Winner
Everado Ponce School and School System Winner
Dr. Peterman recognized the 1994-95 salutatorians and valedictorians and presented them with framed certificates on behalf of the Board:

Dr. Peterman announced that James Daniel Morris of MHS is also the winner of a national Robert C. Byrd Scholarship.
Mr. Tom O'Neal, Director of Business Affairs, presented the Financial Report for April and answered questions.
It was moved by Mr. Coleman, seconded by Mr. Williams and carried 6-1, with Mr. Partridge voting no, to go into Executive Session at 5:50 p.m.
It was moved by Mr. Williams, seconded by Mr. White and carried unanimously to return to Open Session at 6:30 p.m.
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. Williams and carried unanimously to approve job descriptions for the following positions: Assistant Superintendent, Director of Academic Affairs, Director of Federal Programs, Supervisor of Administrative Services and Staff Development, Coordinator of Grants and Public Information.
It was moved by Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mr. Coleman and carried 6-1, with Mr. Partridge voting no, to approve the administrative supplement index.
Superintendent Lee requested that the Board take item VII. Personnel out of order. It was so moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. Coleman and carried unanimously to take the item out of order.
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. Washington and carried unanimously to approve the following personnel items:
Resignations:
Judi Jones, Teacher, VHS, effective 5/26/95
Melvin Knight, Custodian, VUE, effective 5/3/95
Retirement:
Roosevelt C. Hymon, Teacher, FJH, effective 8/2/95
Henry K. Sugg, Academic Coordinator, effective 6/30/95
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. Williams and carried unanimously to approve Superintendent Lee's recommendations that the Board make the following appointments and transfers, effective July 1, 1995:
Howard Duck, Principal, VHS
H. Ross Dyer, Principal, VUE
Arijo Ray Green, Assistant Principal, VHS
Superintendent Lee recommended that the following appointments be approved effective July 1, 1995:
Patricia Bellis, Coordinator of Grants and Public Information
Fred T. Butcher, Director of Academic Affairs
Dr. Mary Eidt, Supervisor of Administrative Services and Staff Development
Julius Huhn, Director of Federal Programs
Pete Peterman, Assistant Superintendent
Following discussion, it was moved by Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mr. Coleman and carried 5-2, with Mr. Partridge and Mrs. Cowan voting no, to approve the appointments as recommended.
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. Williams and carried unanimously to advertise for the following positions: Principal, FHS; Principal, FLE; Assistant Principal, FJH; Assistant Principal, VJH; and Librarian, FLE.
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mrs. Cowan and carried unanimously to hire five additional maintenance workers for the period May 29 - August 31, 1995.
It was moved by Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mrs. Cowan and carried 7-0 to advertise for bids for bread, milk, and exterminating services for cafeterias and home economics departments. Mr. Partridge requested that the board look into providing exterminating services all the school buildings, and Superintendent Lee stated that he would place that item on the next agenda.
Dr. Peterman distributed information about the vocational textbook adoptions recommended by the committee who had unanimously agreed on the recommendations being presented. It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mr. Williams and carried 7-0 to approve the vocational textbook recommendations.
It was moved by Mr. Partridge, seconded by Mrs. Washington and carried unanimously to adjourn at 6:50 p.m.
