The number of annual leave days earned shall be based on the length of service as of June 30 of each year.  Employees who have worked on a full-time, continuous basis, but completed less than twelve (12) months of employment will earn annual leave of one (1) day a month after the first two (2) months of service so that at the end of twelve (12) months, the employee shall have earned ten (10) days of annual leave.  Annual leave shall be calculated from the first day of the month nearest the date of employment and shall be accounted for on a fiscal year basis.

All employees should request annual leave at least thirty (30) days prior to the date leave is scheduled.  Annual leave should be taken in one week periods, if possible.  However, annual leave taken for other than one week periods shall be reviewed and approved by the employee's supervisor and the Superintendent.  Consideration for approval of annual leave shall be based on the employee's current responsibilities.  Should a conflict occur, seniority shall be used to determine annual leave periods.  Employees should work with the appropriate supervisor in arranging for annual leave.  Administrative personnel shall take into consideration the services to be rendered by the employee when arranging annual leave.

Annual leave should not be taken during the following periods except in extenuating circumstances approved by the Superintendent:

  1. One (1) week prior to the opening of school and one (1) week after the opening of school.

  2. One (1) week prior to the closing of school and one (1) week after the closing of school.

For employees that retire or separate from employment other than by retirement, any unused annual leave at the time of discharge shall be paid to the employee or his/her heirs on or before the next regular payday for the pay cycle during which the employee was working at the time of separation or no later than fifteen (15) days following the date of termination, whichever occurs first, at the employee's daily rate of pay.

At no time should an employee have more than 10 days annual leave balance, except for those employees who shall be grandfathered in and have more than the allotted amount of accumulated annual leave days prior to July 1, 2009.
