STUDENT TRANSFER AND WITHDRAWAL

SCHOOL ZONE TRANSFERS

Students are required to attend the school in the attendance area in which their residence is located.  Students who wish to attend a school other than the one designated for their attendance zone of residence may apply for transfer when circumstances warrant.  All requests for transfer shall include reasons for the transfer as well as other pertinent information that the Concordia Parish School Board may require.   All requests for majority-to-minority transfers shall be submitted prior to July 1st. All majority-to-minority transfers shall be effective for the semester.  The Superintendent shall consider for approval all requests for student transfer if such transfer is determined to be in the best interests of the student and school system.  Any decision made by the Superintendent regarding the transfer of a student may be appealed to the School Board for a final determination.

OUT-OF-PARISH TRANSFERS

All students, upon entering the Concordia Parish public school system for the first time, shall be required to present a copy of their official birth records to the school principal. Health Immunization Records must also be presented at this time.  A copy of their report card or a similar document shall also be presented for the purpose of grade placement. Should a student fail to furnish a grade placement document, the student shall be placed at the grade level indicated by the parent until such document is secured.  The school principal has the responsibility of obtaining an official copy of the student's transcript of grades from the school system previously attended for the purpose of verification of grade placement.

After the student has been placed at a grade level, with or without verification, he/she then must meet all promotional criteria at that grade level for promotion.  All exceptions shall be referred to the Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance for proper placement.

Students transferring into Concordia Parish from an unapproved school shall be administered a test for placement determination.

WITHDRAWAL

Students shall be required to attend school in accordance with statutory provisions.  Students may be permitted to withdraw from school however, if approved by the Superintendent and Board.  Such withdrawal must be in accordance with such rules and regulations as may be prescribed by the Board.
